Public Speaking and Hosting

If you’ve been requested to deliver a public speech, you might be wondering what it means and why it’s essential. If you’ve never given much consideration to public speaking, those questions make sense. Public speaking is necessary for business, education, and government. Speaking in public has several advantages for both individuals and companies. If you ask most people, they will tell you that they dislike public speaking and hosting. They may even admit to being scared of public speaking, as it is a common fear. They might just be shy or introverted. You’re losing out if you’re one of those folks who avoid public speaking and hosting.

The Importance of Speaking in Public

Over the years, public speaking has played an important role in education, government, and business. The power of words may be used to enlighten, persuade, educate, and even entertain. In the hands of the appropriate speaker, the spoken word maybe even more powerful than the written word.

The majority of people are afraid of public speaking to some extent. In fact, only approximately ten percent of people in the United States say they like it. Therefore, developing your public speaking skills can give you a significant career advantage since it can open doors that others may pass up.

David Fisher is an award-winning worldwide speaker, leadership coach, and aspiring novelist who was almost homeless a few years ago. “I imagined myself to be someone else who was that hero when I was a kid,” David explains. I used to be an actor as a teenager, and I frequently played the hero (or the villain, but isn’t the villain the hero in their own story?).” He continued to act like an adult but also went into business until his business mentor informed him, “You will never be successful until you love what you do.” David determined his passion was public speaking and leadership coaching after only 10 minutes of hearing this. Through his company, Kingfisher Communications, David now assists others in making deeper connections with themselves and others to have a more substantial and good impact on the world. It began as a business communication consulting firm and has evolved into a company that teaches leadership via vulnerability and storytelling. David explains, “At its core, it’s a deeper evolution of business and organizational consulting.” He concludes, “It’s about assisting others in communicating in a way that inspires and leads, whether in front of a classroom, on a stage, or in a boardroom” Thousands of leaders worldwide have been inspired by Kingfisher Communications to develop more powerful connections via communication, storytelling, and vulnerability.

Despite losing his ability of vision at the age of 14, Erik Weihenmayer is an outstanding climber, paraglider, skier, and kayaker who never lets his blindness get in the way of his desire to live an exciting and happy life. Weihenmayer sees his blindness as a gift, and he has overcome his feelings of rage, frustration, and fear. He continued working on his craft after making friends with other blind people who went rock climbing, and at the age of 33, he became the first blind person to reach the summit of Mount Everest. His inspiring narrative of resilience and drive has been broadcast on The Today Show, Oprah, Good Morning America, and numerous other major media venues. In addition, the Weight of Water, an award-winning documentary on Erik and his most recent adventure kayaking the Grand Canyon, was published this year. His presentations encourage listeners to follow in his footsteps and live a “No Barriers” life, that is, a life free of self-imposed limits.

Expert Tips on How to Improve Your Public Speaking Skills

So now you’re aware of the advantages of public speaking. You could be more enthusiastic about the subject. Even so, you may believe it isn’t for you. Maybe you’ve given a speech before that didn’t go so well. Maybe you’re frightened of speaking in front of a group. Perhaps you believe you lack the inherent aptitude to give speeches.

Speaking in front of an audience is, in fact, a skill. However, you can also learn any skill. While some people have a natural aptitude to speak in public, everyone may improve their public speaking skills. All it takes is a little effort. You may steadily develop your skills and become more comfortable giving presentations and speeches by adopting various public speaking techniques into your daily life. Here are some expert tips for nailing your public speaking skills:

“All the best speakers were bad speakers at first.” – Ralph Waldo Emmerson.

Once you’ve completed all of your speech preparation, it’s time to start practicing! Practice presenting in front of your family, friends, dog, or even just yourself!

Try filming yourself to see how you perform and how you may enhance your body language or communication skills. It will be easier to re-create on the day if you have more practice.

“In public speaking, there are three things to aim for: first, get into your subject, then get into yourself, and last, get your subject into the hearts of your audience.” — Gregg, Alexander.

If the subject isn’t compelling, the audience will often wander off throughout a speech. You’ve worked hard on this presentation, and you’ll want the audience to understand what you’re saying. Excessive data, verbose words, and concepts that are difficult to grasp should be avoided. Instead, add an anecdote or a real-life example to what you’re saying to help the audience understand what you’re saying.

Also, if the situation allows, try cracking a joke; this will make the speech more entertaining!

“When you say something for the first time, it is heard; when you repeat it again, it is recognized; and when you say it a third time, it is learned.” – Maxwell, John.

Don’t be afraid to repeat yourself if you really want to impress your audience! Saying the same powerful statement over will sink in far more successfully than any filler words.

Find the most important lesson you want your audience to remember from your speech and repeat it throughout your presentation.

“The successful presentation is determined not by the knowledge you send, but by the knowledge the listener receives.” Lilly Walters

When it comes to public speaking, the way you present your message is essential. Even if you have a wonderful voice and fantastic body language, your message will be lost if the audience can’t follow what you’re saying. If you speak too quickly, your listeners will struggle to understand you. If you speak too slowly, you risk putting them to sleep. When it comes to public speaking, the safest bet is to speak at a conversational speed.

How can I make money by giving public speeches? Is such a thing even possible?

How to generate money with public speaking is a frequently asked question, and to be honest, there is no one-size-fits-all answer. There are many opportunities for public speaking employment, and you may use your skill to earn money in a variety of ways. There are a plethora of public speaking chances for all types of people available nowadays, as well as even more options to improve your public speaking talents.

Life After Corona

Life has certainly changed the way we operate in the past couple of months. We learned so much about the virus, yet with no cure, but we also learned how important it is to practice social-distance and stay home.

On the other side, a few may have already noticed, we all must stay connected in a way or another to keep life going. We cannot just wholly stay distant.

While a lot of us these days work entirely from home, it would certainly help to stay social even while away from the office.

We could take time to check in on our colleagues. It’s not just about the best tactics to work from home or being safe online. We also need to know if they are doing well while at it.

It’s such a critical time that we all need one another to keep going. Some people may get into depression, and others may go into complete isolation. It’s times like these that show the level of humanity and care we do have for each other.

It wouldn’t be that we take hours over the phone. That’s no good for business either, but we can simply have a few minutes to find out if everything is moving well at their ends.

We can always take good care of our business, and our safety, but please don’t forget to check-in.

Much love to everyone out there!

What Have I learned in My Last Marathon Training!

0

Last weekend, I had the most magnificent time competing at the Ooredoo Qatar Marathon race for the start of this year. I had the honor of racing with my brother Karam Hariri.

At first, I had a plan to finish the race sub 2 hours and that’s exactly what happened, but that’s not just what I had experienced through the entire course.

I had taken 12 weeks before that moment to prepare for the race like most athletes would do if not the entire year! I had enjoyed my morning runs. I had even bragged about it to family and friends.

On race day, I was ready or like how some may call it “je suis prêt”. It was time and I gave it all I have.

What made the memory even more enjoyable, however, is the experience itself. Throughout the entire race, the weather was extremely good, especially with the rains. While some may not see it as an advantage, I had the best time ever.

I also loved seeing a lot of folks with disabilities joining. I had seen someone blind and a few in a wheelchair doing the distance, and old folks passing me by. That on its own was what made it worth.

Reflecting back on what had I learned during training, on race day and after, is what made it really worth the while. Here is what my Toastmaster friend Lorraine Taylor, an experienced personal brand coach, an author and an international speaker like to put it in here last YouTube video summarises exactly what I had learned and like to practice every single day moving on.

Being Positive

It’s important to stay positive and resilient not just during race day, but through life, at the workplace and during struggles. It what keeps us alive and moving.

Embrace Challenges

Take every challenge as an opportunity to grow. There is no meaning to life if we keep doing the same things all over. Besides, it gets quite boring!

Be Social

Stay connected to like-minded individuals on the same path as yours, whether that is a race your after or a new certification or an MBA you’re studying hard for. It will keep you in the zone and away from all the noise.

Have a Greater Vision

Have a long-distance vision on what is the reason behind your motivation. Ask yourself the WHY question. Learn the root cause of what brought the idea in the first place to you, and what is the real fire inside of you that can keep you going and make sure to fuel it as you go on…

Most of all, keep fighting for your health and goals. Don’t stop. It’s a lifetime duty.

Live to Love Yourself

Loving yourself sometimes can be hard to achieve. We all got life obligations, and it can get quite demanding. People who got children to take care of and work duties to fulfill. Family to spend time with and support every single day. Living through all this can be tough.  Perhaps, some daily practice may help us find some balance. After all, we got only one life.

Living and to enjoy living can sometimes be misinterpreted or interchangeably used, which they shouldn’t.  Life has cultures, religions, history, philosophy, and many more things to learn about and engage with.  Living every day with no purpose or just to get by isn’t enough and won’t last. We need to find purposeful meaning and more profound understanding of what life is about and how we can live better.

In this blog post, I like to shed light on three main areas where it may help us all find some balance and love to live every day.

Treat Yourself With Care

It’s all about learning new things, eating well, working out, sleeping more often, and surround yourself with people good for your mental health.

Learning new tricks will keep us going. Eating well will help us stay active and healthy. Working out will give us the energy to enjoy our health with those we love the most, and most importantly support them better. Sleeping is vital to stay away from disease and keeps our bodies functioning as they should.

Enjoy Life

Travel more often and see the world. So many beautiful places that might actually make you appreciate life in many ways. It’s religion in itself. Exchange knowledge and learn about new cultures. We often get so involved into our own that we don’t want to learn about what others do or think.

Be Happy

Blog Picture8

Last but definitely not the least, be happy.  Not because we have the best wealth, or great friends, or been to many places, or learned so much.  It’s entirely because we choose to become happy every single day. No matter how hard it gets, remember that other people have more struggles than what we have. Hence, appreciating the little things and celebrating small achievements can become the mantra of our living. Enjoy stuff like waking up every morning sane and healthy. Having family around is a great help. The fact that we’re able to breath good air every day is a blessing on its own.

Love you all! – Let me know what else you think people should consider to live better, healthier, and more importantly appreciative of every single day.  Write them all in the comment section below. Much love your way!

Thank you for reading and have a beautiful day! 🙂

You and Your Friends

portrait-828398_960_720

In everyday life, we meet hundreds of people. Some come with common grounds, and others arrive with an entirely different background. We do tend to choose who we stay with and who we leave. It gets harder every time we have a choice.  These decisions can make us or break us.

People affect us in every possible way. They can change us both negatively and positively. What is quite evident is that whoever we choose to stay with determining the rest of our life.  They can easily shape our future and mold it in whatever way possible to them. It is hard or probably impossible to read the future. We can only judge our past and present which can help us shape our future.

I believe our future is ten times how our present is looking like. Choosing the right future starts with the right present.

I often stumble across people who don’t know what they want from their lives.  They seem clueless and helpless. And all of a sudden, you witness them take an entirely different turning point in which they become more aware and conscious of what their future may bring.  When I take a closer look, I find them making new friends and connections with those who know clearly what they aspire toward.

Simply put, we can not reach our dreams if we stay close to those who don’t have one.  We can not reach great heights if those we know only look down their feet.  We can not be sophisticated enough if we only stay with those shallow minded. It is those who we keep their company who influence us the most.

It’s no magic, but the people we tend to stay with determining the way our life and future may bring to us. It’s so important that we carefully take the time to choose who we keep in our circles and who we stay away of.

Get Ready to Sleep Faster!

sleepingman-568ae96b3df78ccc15406767

All we need every day is to be fresh and ready to carry on. Every one of us has a different goal that they live for achieving. Whether that to run a business, build a family, get more marks on your next test, train for the next Olympic goal, or just maybe to carry on to the next day. We all have goals to meet, and all we need is to be just ready to start the day fresh and bright.

From my humble experience, I’d typically need 7-8 hours of sleep to help me recover for the next day and below is usually what I do to reach there.

Here, I like to share with you some tips I find very useful after researching best ways to get better and faster sleeping time. Thanks to Health.com for sharing their insights in such a beautiful way.  You can also watch their one minute video right here!

First and for most, avoid afternoon CAFFEINE. Coffee or tea can mess with your sleep even if we drink them hours before sleep. I like to get my last coffee drink, if ever, right before noon time. That way I make sure to get it off my system by the time I wind down to go to bed to get some rest.

Second, take a HOT BATH. Cooling down your body temperature can dramatically help you to fall asleep so much faster. I like to do that an hour before bedtime so that I can set the mood right before I dive into sleep.

Third, bring the LIGHTS down. It is quite important to bring light down as you set the mood right before bed time. I like just to put off all electronic equipment I have in the house including but not limited to (TV, phones, WiFi system, microwave). I only turn a very dimmed light of my table lamp next to the bed just to help read a little before I get ready to sleep.

Fourth, keep the ROOM temperature cool enough. A lot of people I know including myself sleep much faster when the room temperature is cold enough. I usually keep it between 18-20 Celsius depending on the weather condition.

Fifth, wear SOCKS to bed. It improves the blood circulation in the extremities, which can help you sleep more quickly. I usually try to be fully covered because I know from experience I’d wake up if am not covered well due to getting cold, and that can affect my quiet period on a greater level.

Sixth and last, relax the right way. Make sure to try different progressions until you find your best position and stay there until you completely fall asleep.

Hope you like the content, and please leave comments on how do you get better and faster to sleep.

Pokémon Go Privacy and Security Matters!

Pokemon Go

Pokémon Go game has become so popular in the past few weeks after being launched early this month. According to Recode, technology, and media news website, Pokémon Go has an average of 9.5 million users actively using the game on the daily basis.

With that said in mind and the growing demand on the mobile app, privacy and security of the users have to be considered heavily. Here we’d like to share with you few tips on how to use the game while keeping you safe and secure with the least minimal impact.

Make sure that you’re downloading the app from a trusted source and not a third party to ensure your safety and security i.e. Google Play

With the high demand on the application many third party sources have made the application downloadable from their sites. This could introduce malware and viruses without the users’ knowledge.

Protect your privacy while playing the Pokémon Go

As the application requires access to your GPS location along with your data connection, privacy can be easily invaded.  However, below are few things you could adjust while playing to minimize the risk.

  • Don’t use your personal Gmail account to log in. This links your personal information on the account including your location and the game activity. Instead, you can use a fake account for that matter.
  • Make sure your application is always updated with all the security patches on a regular basis.

Beware of the Pokémon Go-themed Scams

Beware of malicious apps on Google Play store. Researchers from popular firm ESET have spotted at least three fake Pokémon Go apps.  One of which titled “Pokémon Go Ultimate” has posed the biggest threat to Android users according to the research.

Beware of Pokécoins phishing scams. Several sites have been available requesting personal information from individuals in return for gaining Pokécoins and other powerups.

Don’t play the game while biking, driving or even walking

Some accidents have been recently reported and all over the Internet due to people getting distracted with the game while driving.

Getting distracted by the game while driving, biking or even walking could put others’ lives in danger.

Note that if you are drawn to an area that is dangerous or restricted, you can report it to the game’s developer who will consider removing it from the game.

Keep others privacy into consideration

Don’t get carried away with your enthusiasm to Pokémon hunt. Such behavior may lead to several consequences such as privacy invasion i.e. consider your time and place while playing the game.

Review access permission while using the app

The application asks for permission to access your location data, photo library, media files on the device, contacts, and camera. Location data is the only thing you need to allow to play this game. This option will let you play without augmented reality. So if you want to have augmented reality, then you will need to allow the camera as well.

“Texting While Driving” Matters!

shutterstock_144889726

In today’s world, while people are constantly glued to their mobile devices, it ‘s hard to believe they communicate like the old days. In the world of technology and social media, people don’t often have face-to-face conversations with each other anymore. They use Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Whatsapp, or any other medium that allows them to communicate behind the screen.

Communicating through means of technology doesn’t necessarily affect us negatively, it’s the way we use it.  Technology brings a lot of benefits to the users along with some unknown side effects that we perhaps need to be aware of.

In this blog, I’d like to touch base on how technology can lead someone to end his/ her life or the life of others through the “wrong” use of technology. Improper use can take place through different means such as bullying, addiction, gaming, and many more. But I’d like to shed the light in this blog on “mobile addition”.

“Mobile addiction is the constant use of mobiles despite the adverse effect it can have on a person or others around them.”

One of the very harmful effects mobile addiction can have on a person is “texting while driving”.   Texting while driving is the act of always looking out and replying to messages you receive on your phone while you’re on the road and behind the wheels.  People with this behaviour can lead to many incidents, out of which are the following;

  • getting distracted from driving
  • moving from one lane to another without noticing
  • suddenly finding yourself too close to break

Many of these events can cause harm to you and the life of others.  It only takes a few seconds for an accident to happen; like a person crossing the road,  another driver who happen to be in the next lane,  a huge truck that happened to be parking on the right way, and many more events.

We often need to remember that our lives are more important than the text messages we are replying to or even those we’re communicating with.  What also matters are the people behind us who love us the most in their lives. Our families, friends, and relatives.

Technology can always be an advantage, but we need to remind regularly ourselves of how we should use it to keep it on our side and not against us.

TED vs. Toastmasters

In TED, speakers talk about what they have written in books and magazines or about their work or contributions to the whole society. That is evident in the following two videos.

What explains the rise of humans? – By Yuval Noah Harari

Design and Destiny – By Philippe Starck

That is right, however, and especially in these two talks what is very evident is that no matter what you come from or what you have to offer, we all do think and believe it’s an added value to come and listen. And this is one thing TED and Toastmasters have in common.

When I think about the differences and similarities of both, I think of both as very similar in nature. Both platforms are for people to think and express their thoughts and ideas freely. You don’t get caught or jailed when you express unusual opinions or views.

From the many talks I’ve watched and listened to, I believe one thing is very uncommon, though. People use TED to share life accomplishments and anticipations of the future while, in Toastmasters, we share life experiences as we face it ( day-to-day ). In Toastmasters, we live the success experience with our audience step by step all the way while, in TED, we come to showcase our light.

Similarly, TED and Toastmasters offer a platform to be persuasive, courageous, funny, ingenious, inspiring, and beautiful.

On the contrary, you never get a proper evaluation in TED, rather you may get harsh criticism as the whole world is evaluating you and maybe that’s one thing that keeps putting them apart.

In conclusion, I think TED and Toastmasters are both there to help the billions bring out their thoughts, ideas, and emotions. They help them get heard.

Your thoughts, please.
