How to Speak With No Fear

Do you get a cold sweat just thinking about speaking in front of a large group (or even a small group)? If that’s the case, welcome to the human race. At first, everyone is afraid of public speaking. You’re not the only one who feels this way. You most likely have glossophobia or a fear of public speaking.

According to The Chapman University Survey of American Fears, 28.4 percent of adults in the United States are terrified of “glossophobia.”

You don’t have to stay that way forever, though. You can employ these six experts’ techniques to conquer your fear of public speaking and eventually become a polished public speaker. It won’t happen overnight, but you’ll get there if you work hard enough.

1. Recognize That Being Nervous Isn’t Necessarily A Bad Thing

According to Scientists, “You care about giving an excellent presentation if you’re frightened. Your anxiousness releases adrenaline, which allows you to think faster, speak more fluently, and express your message with the necessary enthusiasm.”

2. Challenge Specific Worries

When you’re terrified of something, it’s easy to exaggerate the chances of anything horrible happening. Make a list of your specific concerns. Then confront them directly by listing possible and alternative outcomes and any objective information that supports each worry or the chance that your feared events will occur.

3. Speaking In Public Is A Skill, Not A Talent

According to Allison Shapira, FOUNDER AND CEO OF GLOBAL PUBLIC SPEAKING“Recognize that public speaking is a learnable (and necessary) ability for advertising your business to investors, consumers, and partners, and don’t assume you have to be born with it. Set aside time for practice and ask for feedback from coworkers and acquaintances.”

“You can’t outsource public speaking; as an entrepreneur, it’s your responsibility to be your company’s face. And if you’re the CEO of a company, you’ll be the one who has to take the stage,” she added.

4. Don’t Fear A Moment Of Silence

It may appear as if you’ve been silent for a lifetime if you lose track of what you’re saying or become frightened, and your mind goes blank. It’s probably only a few seconds in actuality. Even if it’s longer, your audience is unlikely to mind a brief pause to absorb what you’ve said. Take a few deep, steady breaths and go again!

5. Consider Yourself A Winner

“Many people mentally prepare minutes before speaking or even the same day. It is one of the most important elements,” says Mohammed Murad, Toastmasters’ Past International President. “Visualizing the venue and audience considerably aids in the development of confidence.”

6. Have A Good Time Experimenting

This is the most crucial suggestion of all. Have a good time with the audience. To offer the most pleasing presentation to your audience, try different things. Instead of being immobile on the stage, try out a different hilarious technique or stroll about the hall. Experiment with human behavior, and you’ll discover that public speaking isn’t so horrible after all.

“I understand whatever scenario you’re in right now. Even in small gatherings, I used to get overheated, frightened, and sick. Now, I’ve had the opportunity to speak to 3,000 people at civic engagements, run leadership workshops, speak to tens of thousands of people at a megachurch, engage audiences of children and youth, speak at a variety of churches, and participate in a variety of other activities. I assure you that you are capable of doing this task. You don’t have to be afraid to talk. You don’t have to be where you are right now. Don’t waste any more time. A single day becomes a week. A week becomes a month, a year, a decade, and eventually a lifetime. Don’t let life pass you by as you battle the same old foe of fear. Take action to correct the situation. Take action right now. Start reading. Begin to study these tactics. Begin right now.”
